a lesson in good karma

From time to time I feel myself losing faith in the human race. Aside from the atrocities that we inflict on one another, it seems that people have become more concerned with material things and high regard in society than doing something they are truly passionate about. Then I meet people like Daniel, pictured here playing his guitar in Washington Park, who choose to remove themselves from the race for the best gadgets and most expensive "toys" and focus on the simple pleasures. Daniel, 25, travels throughout Colorado and plays all-ages shows at various small venues. He doesn't charge admission, but does accept donations which usually go to charity. Listening to him play and sing, it is hard to deny the obvious talent this man has. I find it refreshing that he obviously realizes his talent and chooses to use it purely to do good for others, rather than himself.
I wonder sometimes if he's the last of a dying breed.

when life hands you lemons, throw them off a mountain.

Dusk in the mountains is hands-down my favorite combination of time and place. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's something about being perched high enough that birds fly underneath you that makes any and all problems seem to disappear. It doesn't matter what is going on in any other part of my life when I'm on top of the world; sitting in my special spot with a cigarette in one hand, notebook in the other, and camera within reach, watching as the city lights slowly twinkle more and more intensely until they resemble a thousand miles of fire - nothing can touch me here. Nothing hurts here.

It's funny, because this spot I'm describing now is nothing like my home, yet it feels just like home should.
